We are very excited about the start of the 2019 golf season. A lot of preparation has gone into the planning of the upcoming golf season. We’ve negotiated great pricing for league days at Continental for play twice per month there, we also have the great opportunity to play at Elephant rocks twice per month. Finally we will play Sedona Golf Resort twice and Flagstaff Ranch 2 times. Our entire schedule is online at flagstaffgolfclub.com

 

Entry, tee times, tournaments, and rates

 

The Entry fee for our club is $70. Anyone can register on our website, flagstaffgolfclub.com. You can choose to pay via a credit card online Or you can pay via cash or check at the first event however you will NOT get a Peaks Player card if you pay this way. At the first event you may pay your entry but we will only be able to accept Cash or Check, credit cards must be paid in advance via the website. The Peaks Player Card will get you a discounted rate at Continental and discounts on merchandise at the Continental pro shop.

 

 

Tee times will be available to our members at the course specified after 10:00 most tournament days. You may not play at any time prior to 10:00 under any circumstance! Any player teeing off before the 10:00 tee time will be disqualified for the week. No exceptions. 

 

 

Razz Entry Fees will be $10 during tournaments and partnered events and $5 for 18 hole weekly individual events. We will also have a $15 Skins/deuce pot game each week. $5 goes to gross skins, $5 to net skins and $5 to Deuce pot. You must enter all or none. 

 

This year we are going to have our second season long points race. The entry fee is $20 and is to be paid before your first mens club round. We will be awarding the winnings to the winner of each flight only. Points will be awarded for a variety of things. Winner of gross of each flight receive 100 points, points are also awarded to 1st - 10th place of each flight each week gross. Net points are worth 200% of gross points in skins and razz. Points double during the major tournaments. We will also give points to winners of skins and deuces. The gross skins and deuce pots of points will be equal to the amount of money in each pot so you will earn the same number of points as dollars if you win a skin or deuce. Net skins points will be 200% of what the gross skins are. Points will be distributed this year with a much higher emphasize on net play. It will also make for a more random winner. Due to this change you may be in a situation where you fall in gross placing but may have also been in net. We will favor net so if you are in 1st gross and 1st net the net points will be awarded. However you may win less points by winning 1st gross vs 2nd net. We’ve done this intentionally to randomize the winning points. You will always be able to track your points and points standings on our website flagstaffgolfclub.com

 

We will continue to have two flights. They will be split equally for player count based upon the number of participants each week. Middle handicaps may end up in the upper or lower flight depending upon where their handicap falls amounts the group playing that week.  

 

We pay the pot 50/50 to net and gross. We will pay net and gross in each flight. We attempt to pay out in the razz to approximately 25% of the field. This means that the number of places each week will vary based upon participation. We will not pay more than 5 places each week but may pay less if participation is low for that week. Team events will also attempt to pay 25% of the field. This will mean that less places are paid on team event days than individual.

 

We have made changes to the hole in one policy this season. We’ve received numerous complaints that the winner collected the entire pot but didn’t follow through with buying drinks for the group whether it was part of the group or the entire group. The purpose of having the entire skins/deuce pot go to someone that made an Ace was to help them not have a huge bar tab and be penalized for making a hole in one, not to pad their wallet excessively. Therefore this year there will be a protocol for anyone that makes an ace if they want to collect winnings from the Deuce/skins pot. We will send out a reminder for this as well. If you or someone in your group makes an Ace and entered the Skins/Deuce pot you will be required to call the pro shop of the club we are playing before you tee off on the next hole to notify them that an Ace has been made. At that point the pro shop will notify the bar and give them the list of players that are playing that day. Each player that is checked in to the razz will be able to have 1 drink from the bar and it will be paid from the Skins/Deuce pot. All participants from the time that the Ace is called in to the last player of the day will have an opportunity to have a drink. All remaining money in the skins/deuce pot will be awarded to the player that made the Ace and paid the following week. In the event that the player didn’t enter the Skins/Deuce pot or did not call in to notify the pro shop before teeing off on the next hole we will award the skins and the deuce pot normally. Meaning the player will only win the amount of a skin(s) and not the entire pot. All other players will win their skins/deuces as well if this occurs.  Be sure to follow this protocol if you are to make a Hole in One or you’ll miss out!!

 

Pace of play will be strictly enforced. If your group is behind by more than a hole and you’re on a 4+ hour pace the course rangers will ask you to skip a hole. You must do this and it will require you to have an incomplete scorecard which will result in a DQ for the razz. We will also be having the pro shops write down the time you turn in your scorecard. You will be required to turn in your scorecard immediately after you finish the round. If there is no gap before your tee time and you turn in your scorecard more than 25 minutes after the group in front of you you will be warned for slow play. If this happens a second time you will be warned a second time. The third infraction will force us to enforce a penalty to your group that you cannot tee off before 1:00 for the remainder of the season. Our biggest complaint every year is slow play. We are going to eliminate this the best we can!

 

Major Tournament Eligibility

We will be increasing the requirements for players to win prize money in majors. For all majors except the club championship we will require that a player must have participated in 25% of the prior mens club rounds. We will specify in the tournament rules (located in MORE INFO on the calendar of the website) exactly what that number of rounds is. For the club championship all participants must have participated in at least 10 rounds prior to the start of the event. We have increased these requirements because we feel the club champion should be an active participant in the club. 

 

 

 

Please maintain the integrity of our club. Be polite to the pro shops and employees. One person can make our entire club look bad and our committee does not like putting out those fires! Fill your divots, repair your ball marks plus another! Decisions on behavior that is detrimental to the club will be reviewed on a case by case basis by the committee and any possible punishments will be decided by a majority vote of the committee. 

 

Rules of Golf

USGA rules govern all play except local rules listed below and local course rules listed on our website. 

 

We will  be working hard to eliminate cheating. We want you to notify us if a player is intentionally breaking the rules. For those that don’t putt out, bump the ball in the fairway, have a hole in your pocket, etc you will be disqualified if caught and we will notify the group via email who and what infraction occurred. You don’t want this to happen to you! 

 

Local Rules

 

For 2018 we will have some local rules for our club. 

The Maximum score on any hole is 10. If you get to 10 pick up, write down 10 on the scorecard and move on. 

This rule will apply for all round EXCEPT for Major Tournaments. Out of Bounds will be penalized with a 1 stroke penalty and you will drop within 2 club lengths of where the ball crossed the out of bounds line. You may NOT hit a provisional ball if you believe a shot went out of bounds. You may NOT play your ball from out of bounds. You may NOT drop anywhere other than within 2 club lengths of where the ball crossed the out of bounds line. You may NOT drop at the OB stakes where you ball ends up, it must be dropped where it crossed the out of bounds boundary. 

You must play with a mens club member for your round to count

Winter rules will only be in place if a sign is present at the pro shop from the mens club prior to the rounds play. Take note of all rules sheets each week prior to the start of play. 

 

 

 

Some of the more frequently violated rules are:

 

Play the ball as it lies. Players are not allowed to improve their lie, bump the ball, etc. No winter rules will be in effect.

 

Please learn the rules regarding obstructions. You do not get relief when a sprinkler head is in the line of a putt from off the green. You don’t get relief when a sprinkler is in between your feet at the ball. You don’t get relief because your putter will end up going over the man-made obstruction or if it will interfere with your swing because is distracting. You only get relief when it is effected your stance, is in the direct swing path of your intended swing or the ball has come to rest on the man-made obstruction.

 

Please also learn what constitutes a cart path. A cart path is ONLY a path in which a Foreign material e.g. tar, gravel, dirt, concrete has been applied. If the path is merely dirt that has been driven over it is NOT a cart path and only allows for relief if it is deemed ground under repair and marked by the course.

 

When taking relief from these obstructions you must drop within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief. Sometimes that relief may put you in a bush or other poor position. In that case you must drop there or choose to not take relief. If your drop is unplayable you then must take an unplayable and add a stroke.

 

14 club rule. A player must have a maximum of 14 clubs in their bag. If a player tees off with more than 14 clubs in their bag, they are penalized 2 strokes per hole that they’ve started. There is a maximum penalty of 4 strokes.

 

Putt out. There are no gimmes in golf. Even if a player tells you your putt is good, you must putt it out. If a player does not hole out and picks up their ball they incur a 1 stroke penalty for not marking their ball. If the player tees off on the next hole they are disqualified. If a player realizes that he did not putt out before teeing off on the next hole they may replace the ball, incur the 1 stroke penalty and finish the hole.

 

 

If you are unsure as to a ruling or how a penalty should be incurred you should play a second ball. For example: You drive your ball into an Elk Fence that Surrounds a small tree. The fence inhibits your swing. You are unsure whether or not you are allowed to take relief from that fence. We encourage you in this scenario to play your first ball as it lies within the fence. You can then also drop a second ball that is in relief from the elk fencing. You will play both balls out and record both scores. Upon the conclusion of the round you will present the scenario to the Club Pro and ask for his ruling. In this case the pro would tell you that you are allowed to take relief from the elk fencing and therefore the score that you had on the second ball that you dropped is the score you will take for the hole. In the rare event that the Club Pro is not available and decision is needed immediately we will rely on former Class A PGA pro, Jeremy Magness for a decision.

 

Scorecards

 

For the Flagstaff Men’s Club you must play with another member of the club. If you play with others that are not members or play alone your score will not be counted.

When scoring a round in order for your scorecard to be counted it MUST:

 

Be Legible! Illegible incomplete scorecards are subject to DQ

 

We are going to be very strict on scorecard legibility this season. If any of the following are not abided by your score won’t count!!!!

 

Contain the players first and last name

 

 

Contain ONLY non adjusted GROSS scores. Do not adjust them for your net or ESC scores, we will do that.

 

Turned in to the pro shop immediately after you complete your round. We will be taking all scorecards home at dark every Thursday.

 

You must also pay to enter the Razz in order to have your score counted towards your handicap. Not all rounds count toward your handicap. If the game is pick a tee, scramble, alt shot, etc the round will not count toward your handicap. If scoring is don't individually and if from the same tees for the entire round excluding some exceptions the round will count towards your handicap. DO NOT email the league requesting for rounds to be added to your handicap. New members will receive 80% of their usga handicap for mens club initially. 

 

Club Logistics

 

Because we are going to be playing several different courses throughout the season we will have check-in and payouts accomplished differently than in the past. Each week you will check in with the pro shop and we will have them orchestrate razz entry. We will have payouts at each pro shop by 10:00 each week.

 

All results will be posted on our website flagstaffgolfclub.com as early as possible every week. We encourage everyone to login and check to make sure we recorded your scores correctly. Although we will do everything we can to make sure all results are accurate it is inevitable that on occasion we will make a mistake. If you check the website and find our error we will be able to correct it in time for the payouts. Please be sure to check the site every week so that we don’t make a mistake on a payout. Payouts will only be available for 45 days from the date of the round in which they were won. If they haven’t been picked up by then they will be disposed of to the appropriate bank account :).

 

70 Years plus

 

For those members that are 70 years or older we have modified our rule on playing from a nearer tee box this season.

 

All Players 70 and older must register as such. This year when registering you will be required to state whether or not as a 70+ player you will want to play from the tee boxes one shorter on days in which we allow the option. For those that elect to take this option their handicap will be adjusted by the course slope/rating for that tee box for EVERY round that the option is available.

 

All Players will have their tee box available at check in each week. If you decide you are going to play from a different tee box you will be disqualified and your razz entries forfeited. 

 

Handicaps

 

We do not use USGA or AGA handicaps. You are more than welcome to maintain one however we will not post to it or manage it in any way. Our handicap system will use the same calculations that USGA uses with two exceptions. Our handicaps will revise every week. Therefore you will have a new handicap number after most every round you play.  Our handicap will be calculated on the 5 lowest or your last 10 club scores. New members will receive 80% of their usage or aga handicaps and for those that don’t have any handicap we will assign one based upon average past scoring. We will adjust your Scorecards using the USGA’s ESC system. You should not adjust your own card, it is for handicap purposes only. The ESC system is as follows:

 

Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) Rule –  ESC is supposed to be used for Handicap Posting purposes only; however, we will be using it for Pace of Play as well.  If you are behind on Pace of Play, you MUST pick up at your ESC.  For example, if your ESC is “8” and the ranger has mentioned for you to speed up your play, you MUST pick up once you have reached 8 strokes.  On your scorecard you should put your most likely score.  If you lay 8 and you are 40 feet from the hole on the putting green, your most likely score would be a 10 because it would most likely take you 2 putts to hole out.  On your scorecard you should record an x-10. Recording an x on the card will disqualify you from any gross or net scoring events unless its a team event and your partners score will qualify. You are still eligible skins and deuce if you record an x but NOT individual razz events. Please keep up your pace of play!
